Differences between Simple Living, Minimalism, and Basic living

How do you differentiate Simple Living, Minimalism, and Basic Living? This is the interesting question and also the toughest. The reason is very obvious, three lifestyles are more similar than they are different. There is a very thin line between these three lifestyles and there are chances that this line may disappear in some situations. However, many people only know about Simple Living and Minimalism but not Basic Living. There are many articles on the Internet explaining Simple Living and Minimalism. One type of living everyone missing that is Basic Living. I don’t know if I can call it as a Basic Living, but throughout this blog post, I refer it as Basic Living. I will explain what Basic Living is.

What is Simple Living?

In my opinion, Simple Living revolves around people who are satisfied with what they have rather than what they want. And they are happy about it. More towards self-sufficiency. But there are people who have a lot of money but they still live Simple Life like Warren Buffet. Though they can afford to have a lot of things but they are satisfied with what they like to have.

Example: A person can afford to eat Fried Rice which is costlier and has more tasty ingredients than normal rice, but still likes to eat normal rice. And he is happy about it. More importantly, he likes it.

What is Minimalism?

Minimalism and Simple Living has a very thin line between them which differentiates both from each other. In my opinion, Minimalism in a person is seen if that person intends to live with fewer material possessions and he may or may not feel happy about it, unlike Simple Living.

Example: A person may or may not afford to eat Fried Rice which is costlier and has more tasty ingredients than normal rice, but still intends to eat normal rice for various reasons. And he may or may not be happy about it.

What is Basic Living?

If a person is in Basic Living then the basic materials, basic food, basic clothes, basic shelter, Basic knowledge, Basic thinking and fundamental laws (varies depending upon the country) are completely necessary for that person to live his life. It is more about doing basic or fundamental things for any action to basically fulfill it. But still, it is also a type of living in my opinion.

Example: A person may not afford to eat Fried Rice which is costlier and has more tasty ingredients than normal rice, so he intends to eat normal rice. And he may or may not feel happy about it.

Food example is only for the purpose of understanding. Lifestyles can associate with any action like Cricket, Food, Companies, Schools etc.
